HAZOP Gatekeeper™ accepted for the 9th Global Summit on Process Safety (GSPS)

Scaling Process Safety through HAZOP Gatekeeper™

HAZOP Gatekeeper™ has been accepted for a poster session at the 9th Global Summit on Process Safety (GSPS), organised under the CCPS / AIChE umbrella, in Qingdao, 28-29 October 2026.

The accepted abstract is titled “Scalable Governance: Utilizing Multi-Agent Swarm Intelligence to Strengthen Physical Process Hazard Analysis.” In plain terms, we look at how an AI multi-agent system can tighten Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) to enhance the process safety quality.

The problem we are addressing

Modern PHA still depends too much on human stamina. Multi-disciplinary HAZOP sessions run long. Fatigue sets in. Complexity rises. Risks get missed.

That pattern shows up as:

  • Stamina dependency - session quality tracks how long the room can stay sharp, not only how good the method is
  • Deviation blindness - in multi-stream plants, complexity hides latent hazards that a tired team can walk past
  • A compliance gap - safety work stays episodic (a study, a workshop, a binder) instead of becoming continuous governance in the operating cycle

Static reviews are necessary. They are not enough if the goal is sustained control of process risk since they only present a snapshot of the cycle.

What HAZOP Gatekeeper™ does

HAZOP Gatekeeper™ is built as a multi-agent swarm: a proprietary nine-agent Distributed Subject Matter Expert (SME) network. Eight specialised agents interrogate P&ID architecture against mechanical, process, and automation expectations; the system turns essential process safety information into structured, factual draft reports in minutes, so the human team spends more bandwidth on judgement, not preparing reports.

The technical workflow is deliberate:

  • Upload essential process safety information
  • Agents process and cross-check against the study context
  • Output a structured report the team can review, challenge, and sign

This is not a chatbot with a HAZOP costume. It is an interrogation workflow with roles, constraints, and an auditable trail.

P&IDs and process safety information in → structured HAZOP draft out. Augmentation for facilitators and SMEs - not a replacement.

Human-machine collaboration

The design principle is augmentation, not replacement.

  • Automate the grind: standard deviations, dormant instrument loops, repetitive coverage checks
  • Free human SMEs for high-consequence nodes and plant-specific judgement
  • Use the draft report as a living base for continuous improvement, not a one-off PDF to file and forget

Facilitators and SMEs stay accountable. The system narrows the gap between what the method requires and what a tired room can deliver in one sitting.

Strategically, the work sits against the AIChE / CCPS push for stronger management-system application: moving PHA from episodic compliance toward a scalable, data-driven cycle that can travel across sites and operating contexts.

Conclusion

Episodic compliance is the baseline. The path forward is sustained, proactive safety, with humans in charge of inquiry, and agents carrying the stamina load.
